It seems that we are coming into a modest bit of money from a land
aquisition from the county for a road project, so in that light, dh and I
have come to the following compromise:

We are still checking out the school, talking to the staff, checking with
the p-doc, etc.;

BUT:

Dh is open to the idea of setting a set sum aside and using it next year to
pay for tutorials and art lessons. The tutorials include such topics as
maths, sciences, biology labs, etc., as well as speech and drama,
journalism, etc. DD#1 used to take art lessons with a WONDERFUL teacher in
early grade school, but we couldn't afford it anymore, so now, if we set
some money aside, she could at least have a year of art lessons.

This way, she'd have a lot of opportunities that we couldn't otherwise
afford, AND she won't be thrown into a HUGELY new social/educational
situation all at once.

God is so good.

Also, some news about DD#2.

We have FINALLY found a wonderful place, right under our noses, in which to
have Beannie tested for LD's. I don't know how much any of the long-timers
remember, but Beannie was the one who had such a hard time learning to read,
the child who I thought might be dysgraphic, the one who was dx'd as ADD,
etc.

Well, we may yet find out still that she deals with those things; we'll get
all the results from 4 days of steady testing on November 15th. BUT....

We found out that she has a conductive hearing loss in her right ear.

I have been saying that like....FOREVER! We have to take her to an
Otolaryngologist to find out if it is due to a correctable, medical reason,
or if she has a permanent loss. If she has permanent loss, then they won't
do the CAPD testing, as its a certainty that she is facing some processing
issues. If it is correctable, we test again after the correction is done.
I've only been saying she has processing issues since she was like.....five
years old???? It also explains why she can't tell the difference between
her phoenomes, why her spelling stinks, why she can't seem to put her
thoughts down on paper in such a way that makes sense to anyone but someone
that is familiar with "creative spelling", etc. I was told that
homeschooling Beannie was the best thing I could have done for her. I was
also told that the fact that she is reading as well as she is is a direct
result of my having homeschooled her.

Did you all hear that???? The PROFESSIONALS told me that homeschooling was
the BEST THING I COULD DO FOR MY CHILD and she is READING as a DIRECT
RESULT!

Words cannot express what I felt when they told me that....

(although I did suppress the urge to say "duh"....after all, it's taken all
the professionals 5 years to finally listen to me with regard that there is
a problem in the first place.....)

I feel like I FINALLY see the light at the end of the tunnel, and for once
it isn't the train.

Please keep praying, and thanks for the prayers thus far. Trust me, they
are coveted more than you all will ever know.

I had a similar experience when our daughter was diagnosed as learning
disabled. This is ironic, since sometimes those who oppose homeschooling
object on the grounds that it can't deal with LD children.

Homeschooling is the best for some children. Every child is unique ... the
same as every homeschooling environment is unique. It depends upon HOW you
homeschool.
