Given the bread baking post of yesterday,
I immediately recognized that Subject: as funny for us in the easy-to-amuse crowd. Anyway, same ds has also just started taking voice lessons. Did I recently mention the scary old lady that everyone but me is enchanted with? The divergence between mine and everyone else's reaction amazes me. I suspect I'm going to enjoy adjusting my attitude. Anyway, he's just gotten two songs assigned, both from Oliver. Obviously, "Consider Yourself..." but I forget the other. (My favorite is "Who Will Buy"; I think I spent a very melancholy youth and I was most happy when I realized how whatever happiness I had wasn't going to last. Sick! :-) Anyway, we watched the musical (w/Jack Wild, I think) tonight. Ds has been a bit uneasy about the whole singing thing, but was eager to have a video night (w/pizza, no less!) just because. The story doesn't end up entirely happy, and the seriousness of it profoundly affected him. Well, in any case he now doesn't see his singing this kind of stuff as sissy, but as something pretty darned cool. Or profound, or significant, or whatever. Too cool! ___________________________Marty P.S. I just want everyone to know that these events are just a sampling of the idyllic life that we experience every day at Villa Addamiano. Yes, just about every day brings oh, four or five wonderful stories just like these. ;-) P.P.S. Yeah, right. P.P.P.S. I can't wait until he can sing barbershop with me! Then maybe the girls will deign to be dragged in. |

What's he worried about? "Sissy"? Kalaf, Radames, Manrico, Alfredo, Tonio?? Alice Cooper? What about that kid singing the Queen of the Night revenge aria - Kanga posted this one http://youtube.com/watch?v=urgANx5W...related&search= And then there's the real stuff - bass and bass-baritone. Dmitri Hvorostovsky. Nobody ever called Nicolai Ghiaurov sissy - Méphistophèle, Don Carlo, Boris. Or Piero Cappuccilli ... |
