Default Spinach and E. coli

In all the babble on TV and the newspapers about the involvement of spinach
in the pathogenic E. coli outbreak, there is the only the barest mention
that the spinach is mostly organic spinach. It is likely that the origin of
the E. coli is from animal manure that is used for fertilizer or otherwise
enters the irrigation system.

Once again, "organic" and "natural" show themselves to be not benign and to
carry a more significant hazard than the use of chemical fertilizers!

So did they actually find out why it was contaminated. How did it get on
the plants. Is E coli nomally found in horticultural soil.
